Overview

Trakx ("we", "our", or "us") is a music social platform that lets you capture, share, and identify music from live events. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights around it.

By using Trakx, you agree to the collection and use of information described here. We keep this simple and honest.

Information We Collect

We collect information you provide directly and information generated by your use of the app:

  • Account information: name, email address, and profile photo when you sign up via Apple or Google.
  • User content: videos, audio recordings, and captions you upload of live music events.
  • Audio samples for recognition: short recordings (typically 5–20 seconds) captured while you are identifying a track. Matching against our unreleased-track catalogue happens on our servers, so these samples are transmitted to us, converted into numeric fingerprints, and used only for that identification. Full audio recordings are never stored on our servers, and fingerprints cannot be reversed to reconstruct or play back the original audio.
  • Usage data: which features you use, content you interact with, searches you perform, and time spent in the app.
  • Device information: device type, OS version, and app version for debugging and performance.
  • Crash reports: when the app crashes, a technical report of what went wrong (no content you've created) so we can fix it.
  • Waitlist sign-ups: if you join the waitlist on our website, your name and email address, the time you signed up, and, if you arrived through one of our ads or a tracked link, where that visit came from (the link's campaign tags: source, medium, campaign and content, for example "tiktok / paid"). Our server also uses your IP address briefly to limit repeated sign-up attempts; it is not saved with your sign-up. We keep waitlist sign-ups until you ask us to remove them.

Camera & Microphone

Trakx requests access to your camera and microphone to let you capture live concert moments and identify tracks in real time. We only access these when you explicitly initiate a recording or recognition session within the app. We do not record in the background.

How We Use Your Information

  • To operate the app and deliver core features (feed, profiles, recognition)
  • To identify tracks. Released tracks are matched on your device using Apple's ShazamKit, and the audio does not leave your phone. Unreleased tracks are matched against our own catalogue, which requires sending a short audio sample to our servers — it is converted to a numeric fingerprint, used for that identification, and not retained as audio.
  • To personalise your experience and surface relevant content
  • To send notifications about activity on your content (likes, comments, followers)
  • To detect abuse and keep the platform safe
  • To improve the app based on usage patterns
  • To manage the waitlist, email you about the launch, and see which of our ads or links bring sign-ups

We do not sell your personal data to third parties.

Third-Party Services

Trakx uses the following third-party services that may process your data:

  • Firebase (Google): authentication, database, file storage, and cloud functions. Your data is stored on Google's infrastructure. Firebase Privacy Policy
  • Apple Sign In: account authentication. Apple Privacy Policy
  • Google Sign In: account authentication. Google Privacy Policy
  • ShazamKit (Apple): on-device music recognition for released tracks. Audio is processed locally on your device and is not sent to Apple or to us.
  • Trakx recognition service (our own): identifies unreleased tracks by comparing a short audio sample against our catalogue. Runs on our own infrastructure (Google Cloud); the sample is not shared with any third party.
  • Songstats: public track metadata (BPM, musical key, genre) retrieved when a track is identified. Only the track title and artist name are sent. No personal data is transmitted.
  • ACRCloud: used to verify whether tracks are publicly released. No personal user data is transmitted.
  • Firebase Analytics & Crashlytics (Google): in-app usage statistics and crash reports, used to improve the app. Firebase Privacy Policy
  • Google Analytics: website usage statistics, only if you accept analytics cookies (see above). Google Privacy Policy
  • TikTok: the TikTok Pixel records page views and waitlist sign-ups from our ads. It loads only after you choose Accept in the cookie banner (see above). We do not send TikTok your name or email address. TikTok Privacy Policy
  • Resend: delivers our emails (waitlist confirmation and updates about tracks you submit). Receives your email address and name. Resend Privacy Policy
  • Google Sheets: waitlist sign-ups (name, email, sign-up time and the ad or link source, if any) are also kept in a private Google Sheet we use to manage the waitlist.

Each of these services operates under its own privacy policy. We encourage you to review them.

Your Content

Videos and content you post publicly on Trakx are visible to other users. You retain ownership of your content. By posting, you grant Trakx a non-exclusive licence to display and distribute your content within the app.

You can delete your content at any time from within the app. Deleted content is removed from our servers within 30 days.

Data Retention

We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we remove your personal data within 30 days, except where retention is required by law.

Your Rights

You have the following rights regarding your personal data:

  • Access: you can request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
  • Correction: you can update your profile information at any time from within the app.
  • Deletion: you can delete your account at any time from Settings. This permanently removes your account and personal data within 30 days.
  • Portability: you can request an export of your data by contacting us.

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at contact@trakx.app. We will respond within 30 days.

Children's Privacy

Trakx is not intended for users under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We'll notify you of significant changes in-app. Continued use of Trakx after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.

Governing Law

This Privacy Policy is governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of England and Wales. By using Trakx, you consent to the processing of your data as described in this policy.
